Hiero Producer Series: Del The Funkee Homosapien

Installment #3 of the Hiero Producer Series: Del The Funkee Homosapien

Del is widely acknowledged as a legendary MC, but how often do you hear anything about his production skills? He's responsible for at least a couple dozen bangers, the majority of which are of the non-album variety. In compiling these five volumes, I excluded tracks that he co-produced during the IWMBGWH era.

As far as my personal favorite is concerned, I'd have to go with "That's When Ya Lost". That track is a pure adrenaline rush.

  1. Del was a lot stronger producer when he was sampling. His work, along with Domino and A-Plus made 93' Til the great record that it is. A "who contributed the best beats" poll would be interesting.

His new material? I just can't get into it.

  2. I hear you. "That's When Ya Lost" and "Make Your Mind Up" are both outstanding beats. While A-Plus would probably win a poll like that because of "93 Til Infinity" and "Never No More", it's still worth noting that Del contributed two of the top five beats on that album.

  3. A Name I Call Myself is really strong too.
