What you need to look out for here is how Blacula was chopped for "Higher Level." A beat only one of the greatest ears for samples could have caught. After that, check the gem by Myndcrukz featuring Twizz on the rhymes. Great,warm sample taken from the Bennie Maupin track. Bennie Maupin was a part of Herbie Hancock's famous "The Headhunters" band, known for their own brand of Funk Jazz. We finish this comp/mix out with a great end piece including Faze-O's "Riding High" on heroin highway. I always thought that EPMD's sampling of it was way ahead of it's time, and it's been used many times since.But my other favorite usage, that also works well here, is OC's outro,"Sabotage" from his incredible debut album Word ... where is pt2 of this. i used the mediafire link and it only has (sample comp5(troyblog,verge)pt1.rar) i need pt2 right? am i doing it wrong??
ReplyDelete@Anonymous- Click the tag under labels marked- sample comp series. From there it will take you to all 5 volumes of said compilations. I just checked the download link for Volume 2 and it seems to be working.

ReplyDelete@hasan n xpoondiggy- Thanks for checking these Sample Comps out and giving props. Back when I did this series, I should have noted that they weren't intended to list everything that was sampled from each song. They were more meant to be a collection of funk, soul, jazz, and hip hop that you could make a good CD out of.
ReplyDeleteBut thanks for adding on to the breaks. The Beatminerz(I'm guessing)flipped that Faze-O track real, real ill. I didn't even notice that was the sample until someone pointed that out to me.
