Who Flipped It Better? "The Rub"

George and Gwen put out "The Rub" back in 1975, on the album "Together". It still sounds perfectly fresh today! Listen as the funk makes you bop your head...

George and Gwen Mc Crae - THE RUB

How many producers out there have heard this and thought, "shit, I shoulda flipped it".

Well, it's well known that no one owns no loops, so, go ahead and compete with the best:

MOBB DEEP-CAME UP

BRAND NUBIAN - THE RETURN

METHOD MAN AND REDMAN - SERIAL KILLER

THE COUP - FAT CATS AND BIGGA FISH:

  1. better ask: who flipped it? :)
i prefer brand nubians flip. feels like they really did s'thing with the original whereas meth&red and mobb deep just looped it (which is fine btw) the coups flip is alright but not my cup of tea

  2. i like the nubian one but the meth and red has to be the best.

  3. I always thought that the violins were out of place on that Coup track. And I think they pretty much replayed it all. Still the song kills all the other three in lyrical content.

But I gotta go with Primo in the beatmaking contest. It bounces along nicer. Nubian FTW.

  4. How the fuck is this even a question?
    Primo BODIED this shit.
    Period.

Those other 3 beats are some cutting room floor shit next to the Brand Nubian track.

  5. No disrespect for the post topic or to Cenzi by my comment, btw. Just wanted to emphasize my opinion for the Premier track. One of my fave Primo beats of all time.

  6. Cenzi is one point with his comment.

Fat Cats Bigga Fish is a classic. Boots was mad underrated. He just had a swagger on the track.

But as far as flippin' the beat. Primo put in work on that joint.

    Pooch

  7. Preem wins this. But I definitely dig what The Coup did with it.
It all sounds replayed except the violins.
    Good job, Cenzi.
    Props.

  8. i've had this exact discussion before. I love all of them, but Premier wins. That scratched chorus is fantastic.
