OK, OK, I take it back.
None of this stuff is really in the same league as any of the gang of classic records that were released in 1994, but you have to admit that 1986 was a damn fine year for rap music. Along with the first laptop, the MIR space station, and "Crocodile Dundee," 1986 brought us quality tunes from Kool G Rap, Eric B. & Rakim, and King Tee. And that's just scratching the surface.
Revolution pays homage to this year by cutting up and blending together the creme de la creme of the year with movie samples from the same era. The result? Pure dopeness.
Whether universally heralded classics, deeper B-side cuts, or gimmicky fun, this mix has it all. Do yourself a favor and grab it. Unless you get a chance to cop it in the used bin or from DJ Revolution himself, "Class of '86" will cost you close to sixty dollars at various online marketplaces. Damn price gougers.

It just came off as offensive because it was the first comment on this post and it wasn't as descriptive as you explained in your next comment. You cleared up what you said in your second post and as far as radio goes, I really don't doubt you.
I'm from the east coast so I don't really know how The Wake Up Show panned out, but it's not hard to believe that it went south after the late 90's. Shit, mostly all radio did.
This mix is pure dopeness, track selection and mixing are both on the highest level! Rev's Class Of '85 mix is also very nice.
ReplyDeleteNever understood why all these dudes think 1994 was hip-hop's greatest year - okay, I have to admit a couple of classics were released in 1994, but there was also lots of negative issues back then like the lack of creative emceeing/lots of biting or Puffy who changed the rules of the game by adding R&B-flavored beats and hooks and shiny suits. A Class Of '94 mix would never sound as rogh and unpolished as this one or an '88 mix.
Nice mix, lovin' this ish... But as well as the corrupt bonus track, the track ID tags are wrong too. Needs a bit of cleanup!
